Job Description:

Avanade's emerging technology group uncovers trends to help guide Avanade's future technology investments and early client adoption.  You'll be stepping into bleeding-edge technology by contributing to our emerging technology research, all while moving toward a longer-term career in software engineering.

We're looking for a software engineer to join our R&D team in London.  We work with future technologies to understand how they work so we can determine their future potential.  We are seeking a curious, collaborative individual who is eager to teach what they already know and who jumps at an opportunity to dive into new territory.

Our Emerging Technology Engineering team is based in the City of London, within the London Digital Innovation Studio. This means a hands-on approach in a design led agency-style team, focusing on Next generation AI, Immersive Reality (e.g. HoloLens, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, or Ambient Computing), “IoT” edge devices – focusing on physical and communication security - and quantum computation on Microsoft Azure.

You'll join our Emerging Technology R&D team as a full stack developer, but that doesn't define you.  You can learn new technologies and languages quickly and one day may work on building a 3D application with Unity or ARKit to the next week working with quantum computing technologies.  You need to be ready to roll your sleeves up and operate outside of traditional role definitions to help us explore and challenge conventional thinking to support our clients with emerging technologies.

We are looking for someone with a passion for what we do, a can-do attitude, ready to tackle challenges that come with new technology, and the ability to communicate your findings internally and externally.  Ultimately, you'll explore and define new research problems within the research agenda of the emerging technology R&D group and help to implement and execute projects within the R&D group and with clients.

Responsibilities:

Act as a subject matter advisor in a domain area

Contribute to assets/offerings and thought leadership

Execute the R&D agenda through building prototypes, applying and reshaping proof of concepts based on clients' needs, and continuously learning new technology areas

Qualifications

Bachelors in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Science related field (or relevant experience)

2+ years of application development with experience using 2 or more programming languages, such as Python, Java, Scala, C#, .NET, etc.

Intensely passionate about emerging technology

Critical thinker

Detail focused / analytical mindset

Proven success in contributing to a team-oriented environment

Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

Passion for technology and learning – actively seeks to broaden knowledge on emerging tools, techniques, and technologies

Ability to effectively handle multiple projects concurrently
