Solution Architect – Sustainability for Energy


We are building a Sustainability Team that will meet the growing demand for sustainability solutions for Canada's energy and utility industry.

As a Solution Architect, you will be the technical leader, working with the Sustainability Product Owner and the technical development team to build and manage a portfolio of demo assets and other relevant, reusable IP.

The Sustainability Team will work closely with both the sales and business development functions and our client delivery organization.  As the Solution Architect, you will be called on to participate in pre-sales activities with interested clients.   You will also have the opportunity to be in a leading billable role on select, high-profile projects, as needed.


The successful candidate will be highly adaptable and interested in challenges: with a wide breadth of knowledge across Cloud, custom application development, and data and an insatiable hunger to learn new things.



Your primary day-to-day tasks will include:

  • Building and managing demo and IP assets with Sustainability Team
  • Participating in pre-sales activities within the energy and utility industry
  • Solution shaping with interested clients
  • Seeding delivery success with high-profile clients

You keep yourself up to date with the latest and greatest solution architecture trends in the Microsoft ecosystem. You can help our clients integrate their existing systems with new services or lift and shift them to more modern architecture. You like doing multiple things at the same time.



Roles and Responsibilities

  • Build and manage a portfolio of demo assets and other relevant IPs such as connectors to common industry applications.
  • Lead the technical efforts of a lean development team engaged in a very agile development methodology.
  • Work with data architecture, security architecture, infrastructure SMEs and project teams to ensure all aspects of the application architecture are defined in conjunction with Avanade standards, policies, priorities, and standard methodologies.
  • Lead and play a vital role in the application portfolio in terms of technology currency, business agility, technology evolution, business fit, and opportunities to improve efficiencies.
  • Collaborate with sales, marketing, and business development functions.
  • Participate in pre-sales activities such as client meetings, client demos, proposal development, solution shaping, and crafting SOWs (Statement of Work).
  • Oversee the successful roll-out and delivery to high-profile clients.



 

Experience Requirements5+ years’ experience designing and implementing solutions that use a cloud-based architecture in public cloud platforms, including strong familiarity with cloud security, infrastructure, scalability, operations, etc.

• Experience with Microsoft platform including Dynamics 365 and Power Platform applications an asset.

• Experience in the energy and utilities industry is preferred with focus on the oil and gas industry in Western Canada.

• Hands-on expertise crafting and developing cloud native applications and migrating existing applications to the Azure cloud.

• Enthusiasm for hands-on work (if needed) to support proof of concepts and guide development teams.

• Experience with solution shaping and estimation an asset

 


Technical/Functional Skills

  • • Power Platform model driven application development

    • Data integration

    • Agile methodologies

    • Application stack – ADF, APIM, app services, API services, micro services, event based and message-based frameworks.

    • Familiarly with storage mechanisms (ADLS, blob, SQL, No-SQL).

    • Familiar with Infrastructure concerns like scalability, high availability, gateways, load balancers, traffic manager, replication techniques.

    • Comprehensive understanding of authorization, authentication, on-premises AD integration, and synchronization with Azure AD.

    • Understanding of standard methodologies around caching, encryption, hashing on applications and data.

    • Hands-on experience in designing and developing micro-service-based applications using .NET Core, cloud-native applications, and moving to the Azure cloud.

    • Familiarity with web services: REST, SOAP (nice to have)

    • Familiarity with other tools including Git on Azure DevOps
