The Emerging Technology group is looking for an Intern to work within our Open Technology team, to support partnerships with the open-source community, academia, and our broader Emerging Tech group.
You’ll be working with motivated futurologists, open-source communities, and our partners from various universities. You’ll also work with multi-functional teams that could be composed of ethicists, visual designers, user experience designers, and software engineers across multiple platforms and services. You will be included in an innovative culture with exposure to emerging technologies & practices such as Green Software Engineering, Extended Reality, robotics, and AI.

The intern will support the Open Technology group within Emerging Technology in their day-to-day delivery of projects that cut across all aspects of Avanade’s business with a focus on open innovation.
Our Emerging Technology Engineering team is based in the City of London. When we’re able to enter the office, we work closely with the London Digital Innovation Studio, but we’re currently working remotely. We take an in-depth and design-led approach to research, with previous topics including Next generation AI, Immersive Reality (e.g. HoloLens, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, or Ambient Computing), “IoT” edge devices – focusing on physical and communication security - and quantum computation on Microsoft Azure.
Currently obtaining a bachelor’s or masters degree in Maths, Computer Science, Industrial IoT, Data Science or other related fields
Must be able to work full time during the summer

Ability to effectively handle multiple projects concurrently
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Aptitude to independently learn new technologies
Passion for technology and learning – actively seeks to broaden knowledge on emerging tools, techniques, and technologies
Your technical skillset can be varied, but some of below would be a good indicator that you’re a great fit:
Having a flexible, analytical approach to design, develop and evaluate predictive models and advanced algorithms that lead to optimal value extraction from the data
Ability to generate and test hypotheses, and analyze and interpret the results of product experiments
Knowledge of Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, Speech Analysis, etc.
Experience with ASP.NET Core
Experimentation with ML.NET
Interest in Azure Digital Twins
Implementation of security and data protection
Integration of multiple data sources and databases into one system
Proficiency in RESTful APIs and API Communications
Basic understanding of front-end markup such as HTML5 and CSS
You will also have some experience with Git as a source control tool, an understanding of JSON, REST… and an aspiration to experiment with newer languages/technologies such as GitHub Actions, Q#, IoT Hub, Unity, Blazor, etc.
