At Avanade, Contract Managers are the single Regional point of contact for contract and commercial support of client agreements, and act as primary liaison with the Legal team. They provide direction and guidance to Avanade’s Regional business/client teams, Delivery, and internal partners related to core contracting strategy, complex processing, and potential compliance matters, during both pre and post contract signature activities. Core responsibilities include high level contract assessment and interpretation, contract review and redlines pre-Legal review, and support with internal processing tasks to ensure compliance with client specific requirements and subcontracting efforts. 
This role will report directly to the West Region Operations Lead, and indirectly to the North American Contracts Management Lead for functional guidance. Work will be performed remotely, and standard working hours are Pacific time zone. Travel is not required for this position.

Job Complexity:

Support will be provided in a fast paced and high-pressure environment. The right resource is comfortable working independently, or with minimum guidance from Regional leadership, and has solid decision-making skills related to business processing. Must be dedicated and client focused, confident, and able to balance priorities across mid to high volume requests. Resource will partner with local teams, to operate from general procedures and policy, and be seen as a trusted advisor to leadership. Responsible for contract review, interpretation, and general management under established parameters. Perform work that is varied and requires flexibility.  Errors could cause substantial loss of funds, accounts, delays and affect company image.  Contact and liaison with all involved departments and customers at a variety of levels; contacts are made with limited or no supervision. 
Sample Role Activities:
  • Identify contract and commercial risks and issues and propose mitigation strategies or solutions for approval requests
  • Where possible, improve and drive consistency and control within client agreements
  • Improve client relationships through partnership, advocating for client needs, and applying consistent practices to reduce internal obstacles, where possible
  • Escalate matters in a timely and controlled fashion (in accordance with prescribed guidelines) and ensure affected parties are notified in an appropriate manner
  • Review and/or scrub of terms & conditions in contracts in support of:
    • Assignment for Legal Review by Legal, or 
    • Contract Manager Approval, as delegated by North American General Counsel
  • Work with Sales and Delivery to ensure mitigation requirements, as established by Avanade Policy, are being factored into Deal shaping and addressed during contracting phase
  • Actively promote benefit/awareness of contract management with Regional business and account leaders, by identifying opportunities to further develop and streamline contract management support
  • Update and maintain internal tools with relevant information, to decrease assessment and action times for compliance 
Skills and Experience:
  • 5-6 years of experience that demonstrates an expert level knowledge of business control processes and contract management support with complex agreements
  • Proven ability to take a lead role in and prioritize multiple business areas in a high volume and demanding environment
  • Team player, collaborative and persuasive; able to work well with executives and non-executives, and effectively influence senior leadership
  • Demonstrate good oral and written communication skills and an ability to provide appropriate advice. 
  • This includes ability to provide clear guidance and critical feedback in support of defined expectations and criteria for established requirements of the Deal Review and contracting Process. 
  • Subject Matter Expert level of understanding of standard business terms, and experience with screening agreements for terms such as: Scope, Acceptance, Limitation of Liability, Warranty, Background and Drug Screenings, and Payment Terms. 
  • Must be well organized and detail oriented, with ability to multi-task and "change gears" quickly between different areas of contract support. 
  • Task oriented, self-motivated, independent, willing to accept responsibility, and willing to take the lead in handling complex tasks/problems with a “can-do” attitude
  • Work effectively in both a team environment and independently and thrive in a management structure where high standards are maintained
  • Helpful in creating an environment allowing the department to achieve through teamwork, including being available to provide guidance and answer questions, as well as help them efficiently meet the needs of corporate clients.
  • Comfortable working in a corporate environment within a chain of command and supporting cross functional teams
  • Advanced level proficiency in: SharePoint, CRM, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.   
Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree required 
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in contract management with exposure to complex, risky deals with proven cross-team collaboration experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree, Law degree, or MBA with an emphasis or experience in contracting areas a plus
  • Member of International Association for Contract and Commercial Management (IACCM) or National Contract Management Association (NCMA) and/ or professional certification considered a plus
