About the role

The lifecycle of an Avanade project runs all the way from planning to sales through execution and closure, with many stops in between. As a Director in Delivery Management, you look after all of them.

Your phenomenal management and people skills are at the heart of every project, across different businesses and borders, and you craft and implement effective plans that meet operational objectives. Your multi-faceted role draws on your broad business knowledge to handle scope, schedule, budget, quality and risks, monitoring, and reporting to enable a fast response to any issue.

You build a collaborative team to guide front-line operations, craft strong client and partner relationships, and lead internal and external partner expectations.

Day to day, you will:

  • Actively participate in key sales pursuits
  • Engage customers in meaningful dialogue about their business to mutually explore opportunities
  • Actively participate in Market Unit channel development
  • Oversee and lead development, implementation and maintenance of the Project Work Plan-Approve estimates and estimating assumptions for the project's schedule, effort, and cost
  • Coordinate service levels and agreements and prioritize resources across projects and programs-Lead the delivery of the contracted solution on the program level at the agreed upon terms, cost (ODE), schedule, and quality level and is responsible for overall project approval.
  • Provide project leadership to appropriate onshore, offshore and near shore workforces
  • Manage overall project/program risks, making adjustments as necessary and obtaining buy-in from senior management.
  • Ensure understanding of stakeholder goals and expectations, address any misalignment, and monitor and control the program to meet/exceed the agreed expectations
  • Manage delivery portfolio - monitoring, escalating, and resolving issues
  • Have ultimate accountability for the overall development and integration of requirements
  • Provide oversight to management of relationships with all suppliers and subcontractors and own key relationships
  • Adhere to Market Unit and Americas Managed Delivery guidelines and processes.
  • Be accountable for compliance with corporate standards (legal, commercial, methodology, etc) throughout the delivery process
  • Represent the project team at client meetings. Obtain buy-in from senior management for all critical project plans, commitments, and changes
  • Provide strategic direction to all change management and change enablement processes throughout project duration 

Capability Requirements

  • Experience successfully managing multiple large, ongoing, high risk, high revenue interrelated projects to achieve a specific set of customer business goals.
  • Track record of successful sales activities involving large, strategic projects.
  • Track record of establishing and maintaining successful relationships with C-suite level customers.
  • Able to articulate value delivered in a manner that drives and influences customer commitment and future partnership.
  • Advanced level understanding of financial management practices as related to projects and programs.
  • Significant experience managing risk effectively.
  • Deep understanding and application of various delivery methodologies.
  • Successful track-record of Systems Integration delivery: Application Assessment & Requirements, Application Design & Architecture, Process & Functional Design, Application Implementation.
  • Successful track-record of Technology Consulting: Technology Diagnosis & Assessment, Technology Design, and Technology Implementation.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, including the ability to: Masterfully negotiate sensitive situations and multifaceted contracts, Nurture complex relationships beyond immediate customer team with a broad range of target customers and with internal experts and senior executives, Engage customers in meaningful dialogue about their business to mutually explore opportunities
  • Outstanding business acumen
  • Proven ability to become a strategic business partner and trusted advisor to customer
  • Customer oriented attitude and excellent interpersonal skills-Outstanding people management skills, including ability to lead a team and mentor individuals in career growth.
  • Ability to travel as needed to client site (Mon-Fri)
  • Experience in earned value reporting (preferred).

You will probably have a Bachelor’s degree in Business or a technology-related field, and we’d really like it if you are a Project Management Institute certified Project Management Professional. You’re likely to have at least six years of experience in developing and leading teams, as well as large-scale and complex programs and projects.
