Job Description

As a Portfolio Delivery Lead, you are responsible for the overall performance and growth of your assigned portfolio (whether aligned to a Global Solution Area or geography). You will be responsible for overseeing and developing delivery strategy to achieve delivery and financial performance measures. You will work closely with the Regional Delivery, Global Solution Areas (GSA), and Sales Leadership to define and implement delivery strategy, operations, and initiatives to support cross-GSA solutions and outcomes, ensuring Avanade delivers full-spectrum solutions and value for clients and results for the business.


You will be accountable for ensuring successful delivery outcomes through leadership in the assigned portfolio. You will be working directly with clients (on projects and otherwise) to drive portfolio delivery results. Similarly, as the Portfolio Delivery Lead, you will work in close partnership with the sales organization to drive offerings to target clients, supporting long-term health of the portfolio and Avanade. Overall, you must also partner with Talent Community Leads to focus on resource and skill needs, both present and future, to ensure the organization is ready for and adapting to market changes.


Day-to-day, you will:

  • Define strategy and execute for assigned portfolio; align to Global Solution Area strategy to ensure positive organizational results as determined by the Regional Delivery Executive.
  • Partner with peers in other geographies to help establish the strategy and operations plans
  • Support business development through all stages of the DEEPR deal pursuit process; review and approve deals and ROMs at the assigned geo-level
  • Manage budget against assigned Area/Region delivery metrics; provide analysis to support variances
  • Support decisions on investments within each GSA to help grow the offerings and practices
  • Manage resource escalations for portfolio projects to maintain effective delivery operations and project outcomes
  • Partner with Regional Capability Lead on portfolio workforce strategy to ensure right supply of skills and people to support portfolio needs, balancing supply vs demand timing and optimal GDN participation
  • Develop strong, effective relationships with peer Portfolio Delivery Leads to develop winning strategies and engage in joint sales pursuits
  • Manage effective delivery of GSA work to clients, ensuring adherence to Avanade methodologies to meet Avanade and client financial expectations; collaborates with Delivery Management Talent Community members or Delivery Leads to surface delivery issues and estimate EAC outcomes
  • Become a direct partner to clients, particularly at executive level, ensuring they receive required engagement value and supporting future sales pipeline through delivery success
  • Ensure strong client satisfaction and appropriate follow-up to Voice of the Client (VoC) survey results; enable and ensure lighthouse success stories throughout project offerings.
  • Maximize involvement of GDN in solution planning, delivery, and ensure that deal is shaped to optimize leverage of GDN
  • Support portfolio personnel activities, including hiring, staffing, skills forecasting and career development
  • Support practices and discipline to manage employee utilization
  • Manage chargeability targets for the region, developing strategies to deliver targets
  • Partner with Regional Delivery Executive and Talent Community to determine priorities for staff positioning on client projects, business development activities and internal investments initiatives
  • Your technical and non-technical skills may include:
  • Experience delivering solutions for client organizations through complex solutions/projects with heavy client interaction
  • Track record in developing and growing long term, high value client relationships Consulting & Delivery Experience
  • Significant experience with offshore/nearshore teams and delivery
  • Experience helping grow a portfolio of business through strategy and sales contribution
  • Experience establishing delivery leadership presence in the minds of key clients through client interactions and executive presence
  • Experience with sales principles and practices, including business development, marketing, and complex channel management
  • Ability to effectively team with peers in a large, matrixed organizations
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, especially strong influencing, and negotiation capabilities
  • Strong consulting / project-based background, including assessing and managing the opportunity and risk associated with large scale, complex projects
  • Ability to guide and direct leadership teams in development, production, and promotion of Global Solution Area offerings
  • Solid understanding in domains relevant to Global Solution Area portfolios

Preferred Certifications:

Internally: Certified Delivery Lead (SIDL) required, Certified Solution Architect (SISA or AOSA) and Certified QA Director (QAD) preferred


Preferred Education Background:

You will likely possess a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent), preferably in business or technology-related field. An advanced degree is strongly preferred, particularly technical (IT, engineering, or related) or MBA


Preferred Years of Work Experience:    

You will likely have 10+ years of relevant technology business leadership experience, including solution sales, creation, delivery, and business management (or relevant field)


Preferred Years of Management Experience:    

4+ years of delivery leadership that includes direct people and large project management experience

  • Knowledge Applied: Applies expert knowledge of a learned professional occupation / discipline and demonstrable, broad knowledge of business operations and organizational strategy.
