Job Description

Avanade’s market units are the client-facing business units within our organisation and are focused on market needs e.g, the areas on which our clients most frequently seek our mentorship during their digital transformation journey.  Data & AI is one of our four market units and is rapidly growing as the market increasingly focuses on Insight Driven decisioning, Machine Learning, Big Data and AI.


Within each market unit, we have a series of core Offerings – the solutions that we deliver to our clients to help drive their business outcomes.   Offerings are horizontal in nature but are specialised to meet the needs of our target Industries to drive a specialised solution for our Clients.  Through the Market Unit, we deepen our relationships with our clients across their entire business and challenge in new areas, helping us to grow our market share.


As the Head of UK Data & AI, you will be responsible for the overall strategy, performance and growth of the Data & AI business unit.  You will be responsible for the market and business development activities which will drive the Sales and Delivery of data platform centric solutions into our Client base both on premise and in the Microsoft Cloud.


You’ll manage a team of Offering Leads, Solution Architects and pre-sales resource to support offering growth, sales and delivery within the UK.   You’ll partner closely with the Area MU Lead to implement a strategy for offering identification and investments to drive further growth within the UK.


Key Responsibilities include:


Business & Commercial:


  • Growth – Avanade has a keen focus on growth across our business with a keen focus on Data & AI which can act as a linchpin to help our Clients and drive our business forward. To support growth and market development you will need to: rapidly scale the Data & AI business in your region and promote Avanade in the external marketplace

  • Strategy –you will set the overall strategy for your Market Unit to achieve revenue, growth and organisational targets as agreed with Regional, Area and Global leadership to help achieve growth targets.   Working in collaboration with teams in our Global Centre of Excellence, the wider organisation and our partners you will contribute to and develop innovative solutions to the meet the needs of the marketplace

  • Financial – manage Data & AI results to meet and exceed the overall Business Unit targets.  Evaluate operational results and provide forecasting and sales pipeline analysis to support local and Area processes

  • Delivery – ensure that programmes of work for your Market Unit are managed effectively and in accordance with Avanade’s methodology. Act as escalation point for Client delivery issues.  Can include acting as an Executive sponsor, when required

  • Solutions – Leverage the existing Avanade solution set and foster harvesting to enhance Avanade differentiation. Collaborate with the Global Solution team to ensure Avanade solution strategy is fueled with the right balance of field feed-back and strategic vision

  • Clients – working closely with the Avanade Sales teams and partner organisations to ensure that your Market Unit helps sell, implement and support a portfolio of Data & AI customers within the region.   You will provide strong guidance to your Offering Leads and the Sales community to help identify high priority customer segments and appropriate sales strategies. Ensure strong customer satisfaction and appropriate follow-up to customer satisfaction survey results.


People & Organisation:


  • Leadership of organisation - Provide leadership, organisational vision, and inspiration to the Data & AI Market Unit through clear communication and execution of strategy and goals

  • People environment and development - Develop the people within the Market Unit so that skills and capabilities best serve the UK’s needs and operational standards.  Ensure that leadership development and succession strategies are in place within your team and that training and professional development goals are met

  • Maintain and strengthen the Avanade, Global, and Business unit culture and team identity throughout the Business unit organization to foster a strong sense of connection and belonging. Ensure the demands of the business are balanced with a positive and constructive employee environment

  • Collaboration – Maintain a strong and collaborative approach to working with other Market Units in the UK. Ensure close alignment between the UK and the Area and Global organisations through the appropriate and efficient communication and information flow between the UK and the wider Avanade organisation.  Collaborate with area to help contribute knowledge, skills and capability development to help drive the overall Avanade Data & AI business both in the UK and globally

  • Organisation – working closely with both Regional and Area leadership, build and manage an organisation that is relevant to the needs of the business, the current market environment and is sustainable so that future delivery capability needs can be met as the business grows

  • Operational – ensure that overall operating approaches and procedures are being met by your team in accordance with Avanade’s business strategies, policies, and objectives

  • Quality – working with Solution Architects, Offering Leads and QA Directors review and approve deals, solutions and proposals before release to customer to help ensure that programmes of work meet our client’s objectives, are in accordance with Avanade’s methodologies and policies, and will deliver business value to our clients

  • Alliance - Partner with Accenture and Microsoft regional and Industry leadership to create markets, educate on our offerings, develop the alliance and to identify and close business opportunities.  With key focus on the developing and scoping of AI led solutions, based around the Microsoft platform and associated ecosystem (e.g. Databricks, Adobe etc.).


About you


  • You revel in success, with a leadership track record in developing and growing long term, high value client relationships

  • You’re adept at communications, especially with influencing and negotiation capabilities that help you establish and grow solutions with key clients. Internally, you enjoy advising leadership teams in the development, production, and promotion of solution offerings to grow a technology services line of business


Your professional skill set should include:


  • Executive level experience in growing and leading a medium to large scale, profitable Data & AI services business within an international environment
  • A strong track record of working within a multi-national or global organisation, the ability to effectively team with peers in a highly matrixed solution.
  • You will have client facing experience, developing Data and AI customer solutions and understand the business challenge and relate the technical solution.
  • Experience with sales principles and practices, including business development, marketing, and complex channel management
  • Extensive experience in proposal development and delivery of presentations to the C-level within organisations with appropriate executive level messaging 
  • Strong consulting / project-based background, including assessing and managing the opportunity and risk associated with large scale, complex projects; experience with the delivery of large scale/complex solutions for Clients.
  • Technical Expertise should include:
    • Excellent consulting skills to lead the Client through problem understanding through to the shaping of a solution
    • Extensive experience selling, architecting and building Data centric solutions
    • Deep understanding and experience in Big Data, AI and RPA
    • Good understanding and experience with Microsoft data technologies with a minimum of 2 years in MS Azure
    • Experience of solutioning and delivering solutions with multi-site, offshore/onshore delivery models
    • Consistent track record of positioning, closing and delivering data platform centric value propositions and solutions including estimating and building saleable commercial contracts

Education and Experience


  • You likely possess a bachelor’s degree in Business or technology-related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. An advanced degree or MBA is strongly preferred, particularly technical (IT, engineering, or related)

  • You likely have over 10 years of meaningful technology business leadership experience, including solution sales, creation, delivery and business management, and more than 5 years of demonstrated people and/or business leadership experience, particularly within a consultancy.
